Ascenders: Beyond the Peak’s demo is live on Steam!
Today, alongside Ludogram, we are proud to reveal a new gameplay trailer for Ascenders: Beyond the Peak, a turn-based tactical exploration roguelite where every expedition is a climb, every climb is a risk, and every bad decision can follow the team back down the mountain.
The new trailer reveals the game’s full expedition loop, from team selection and preparation at Headquarters, to tactical ascents, camp management, rewards, retreat, death, and restart. A playable Steam demo is available now.
SURVIVE UPWARD
Inspired by the danger, scale, and mythology of mountaineering, Ascenders: Beyond the Peak is not a climbing simulator. It is a tactical exploration roguelite about surviving upward.
Set in an early-20th-century world of dangerous expeditions and strange artefacts, the game draws from real-world alpinism wherever possible, with major missions inspired by iconic mountains such as Mount Everest, Hvannadalshnjúkur, and Pico da Neblina.
You lead the Ascenders Agency, recruit climbers with distinct traits and backstories, prepare expeditions, manage fatigue and injuries, and make hard calls when the climb starts falling apart. The pressure of the climb is very real.
PICK THE RIGHT CREW FOR THE CLIMB
Every expedition begins before the ascent. At Headquarters, players recruit climbers, review their attributes, unlock skills and passives, heal injuries, train the team, and decide who is ready to risk the next climb.
The Steam demo introduces three playable classes: Highlander, Scout, and Sapper. Each brings a different tactical approach to the mountain, from terrain-breaking strength and mobility tools to explosives that can reshape the ascent.
THE MOUNTAIN DOESN’T WAIT FOR YOUR PLAN
Once the climb begins, every decision becomes a survival problem. You must manage stamina, positioning, hazards, enemies, and weather while pushing higher through dangerous vertical terrain.
Blizzards increase stamina loss. Earthquakes crack terrain and open holes. Falling rocks, geysers, frozen ledges, spider webs, and stalactites can force players to rethink their route before the mountain makes the choice for them.
The new trailer also reveals Jungle, a new biome that expands the game’s hostile environments beyond the icy climbs featured in the demo.
MAKE CAMP BEFORE THE CLIMB BREAKS YOU
Between stages of the ascent, players can set up camp to manage fatigue, heal injuries, gather resources and craft bonuses.
Camp stations create hard trade-offs. Resting removes tired stacks. Healing costs food. Resource gathering adds fatigue. Every pause on the mountain is a chance to recover, prepare, and decide how much more the expedition can take.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE ROSTER REMEMBERS
Death is permanent. Retreat can make everything worse. Survivors may return changed, carrying trauma that impacts future expeditions.
When resources run low and the mountain pushes back, players may have to decide who rests, who risks the next move, who carries the burden forward, and who does not make it home.
A MISSING EXPEDITION, STRANGE ARTEFACTS, AND A FIRST BAD CHOICE
The demo also introduces the story through a tutorial mission that unlocks three mountain levels upon completion, with unlimited procedurally generated missions. You take on the role of the Ascenders Agency, hired by philanthropist-billionaire Alexander Armacost to find the missing expedition of his friend Herman Weaver, who vanished while searching for strange artifacts. What begins as a rescue mission quickly becomes the player’s first lesson in how much the mountain can take.
